Depression gives rise to pessimism. This negative attitude makes the person feel helpless which gives rise to other withdrawal effects.

Depression also affects the appetite of a person, they either lose interest in food or start overeating and this attitude adversely affects the health of the person. Depression also leads to temporary loss of memory which affects their concentration.

Depression is not an ailment that can be taken lightly. It is a chronic disorder which should be treated seriously as it has a long term effect on the health and life of the person who is suffering from this disorder. Depression is not a state which comes and goes within few seconds as it develops due to the biological and chemical changes in the body so it should be treated as any other medical problem.

Types of Depression

Depressions are of several types but the main characteristic that can be observed in all types of depression is the irritable mood and the loss of interest in all types of activities in life which bring joy and happiness in life. The main types of depression are bipolar depression, disorder caused by the affects of the season, melancholic depression, major disorder due to depression and dysthymic disorder.

The most common type of depression that is found in the people is the major depression and the dysthymic disorder.
